CLEAR!
Michigan nurses want out
Nearly 39% of nurses in Michigan want to quit their job. Here is why.
The University of Michigan surveyed 10,374 licensed nurses in the state of Michigan. This is what they found out.
While 39% of nurses, overall, intend to leave their jobs in the next year, more than half of young nurses plan to do so: 59% for nurses under 25; 53% for nurses 25-35; and 45% for nurses 65 or older.
28% plan to reduce their clinical hours.
18% intend to pursue travel nursing.
84% say they are emotionally exhausted.
60% reported inadequate staffing and resources to deliver patient care.
43% reported emotional abuse, 22%, reported physical abuse, 10% reported sexual abuse and 26% reported workplace bullying.
This is bad news for a state with an aging population that already has a staffing shortage. Lead researcher, Christopher Friese, believes Michigan should pass legislation for minimum staffing protocols and anti-violence in the workplace.
COVID was not the cause of this data, but, it did shine a light on the draining work conditions of nurses in America.
💵 The physician gender pay gap is closing
THE PROBLEM: Women are still being paid 19% less than men.
Here’s the Diagnosis:
In 2022, the physician gender pay gap narrowed for the first time in five years.
The racial pay gap stayed the same. Black physicians made 13% less than their white counterparts.
On average, physician salaries rose by 4% in 2022
This study surveyed 10,011 physicians and over 50% said they were satisfied with their pay
