🩺 Fat Joe Wants Your Hospital Bill To Be More Transparent

There are over 100 million Americans with medical debt and Fat Joe doesn’t like that. Here’s what he's doing to help.

Healthcare lobbyists in D.C. just got a visit from one of their most unexpected brother-in-arms: Fat Joe, a high-profile OG rapper known best for his hit songs featuring Ja Rule, French Montana, and Remy Ma (to name a few).

Last week, Bronx rapper Fat Joe took to the streets of Capitol Hill to lobby Congress for clear and transparent hospital billing. For two days, Fat Joe was meeting with white house correspondents, congress members, and nonprofits - lobbying for a bipartisan push to enforce the rules around transparent hospital billing.

For context, in 2019, the Trump administration passed rules that made it mandatory for hospitals to list all the fees when billing patients and provide easy access to the price range of services. Since 2019, only 4 hospitals have been fined for not being compliant. Sounds a bit off, right?

The stats that Fat Joe doesn’t like

  • 100 million Americans have medical debt

  • 40% of personal bankruptcies in 2019 were from medical debt

  • 70% of US hospitals are not in full compliance with the billing transparency rules

Fat Joe even cut a few promotional videos with the nonprofit - Power to the Patients. I watched most of them and they have great production quality!

Fat Joe told ABC News, “I look at myself as an evangelist, spreading the word gospel of how important it is to show us the prices.”

In Short: Fat Joe is more than a rapper. He’s using his platform to fight a problem that has affected his friends and family. Medical debt is no joke for Americans, and Fat Joe wants the government to be more on top of enforcing hospital billing practices.
